Ever since the idea of online auctions came into existence, the online selling market has been on the rise. Many are interested but don’t know how to get started. There are still all kinds of ways to make money by selling online, whether you’re selling what you already have or buying and selling like a store. Before we get started, here are a few general tips when anything online:
- Get a PayPal account. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you’ll want to get one if you’re doing business online. It’s the standard in online marketing for receiving payment and paying others.
- Take good pictures. Some of the options below don’t require you actually to take the picture and sell the product, but for the ones that do, make sure you take a clear view that makes your product stand out from the others. If you’re going to be taking a lot of pictures, set up a small “studio-like” area in your home with a backdrop and proper lighting to make your pictures come across as professional really. And of course, you’ll want a good camera too.
- Be honest. If you’re selling used items, be honest about every dent, scratch, blemish, etc.. This will reduce many issues you could run into and keep your reviews positive.
- Do good business. Plain and simple. Whether you’re selling on a small site or opening an online store, your customer service matters. You’ll want to get those positive reviews and make a good name for yourself. Respond to questions, concerns, and complaints. Offer a guarantee if available.

i-Say’s pretty honest about the fact that you won’t get rich quick using the site. “As a member of i-Say and most other legitimate market research companies, you will not earn big money doing surveys,” it admits.

Viggle is probably the biggest smartphone app out there regarding getting paid to watch TV. You “check in” while you watch a particular show (on regular TV) and then earn a set amount of points. You can then use those points to cash out or get other rewards. I’ve used it before, and it’s pretty fun — almost like a game.
Viggle is part of a family of apps called Perk.TV. You can get various other Perk.TV apps to watch movies, trailers, TV clips, and more — and play games, take quizzes, and more. Each thing you do gets a set number of Perk Points, and when you have enough points saved up, you can redeem them for cash or gift cards. With Perk.TV, you can earn extra Perk Points by watching short video ads on your way to doing something else with one of their apps.
Finally, there’s a mobile app called AppTrailers, which shows you trailers and promos for new apps, videos, music videos, movies, and more. Each container you watch, you earn points, and after you’ve accumulated enough points, you can redeem them for cash or gift cards. This one doesn’t pay well, but it can be fun and exciting to see what’s coming out soon and discover new things you might like.

Grow your business: Once you land your first client, nurture the relationship with excellent communication and special deals on your services. It’s also a good idea to offer them discounts for word-of-mouth references. And don’t forget to ask them to support your business either by giving an online testimonial or endorsing you on Linkedin.
